Warangal: Maoists plant banner bombs

The banner was wired to a land mine set up near the highway.

Warangal: A day after the police conducted a review meeting for the elections, Maoist ‘banner bombs’ and posters asking villagers to boycott the elections were seen in several areas on the Bhadrachalam highway in Venkatapuram and Vajedu mandals of Jayashankar Bhupalapalli district on Thursday.

The banner bombs were planted at two locations in Venkatapuram. One banner was spread on the road near Utthedu Gollagudem, 4 km outside Venkatapuram, with wires connected to land mines located beside a grocery store on the highway. A similar bomb was seen between Alubaka and Abbaigudem near Palem bridge over the Mallakattu vagu. The banner was wired to a land mine set up near the highway.

Pamphlets and banners were found in large numbers in several areas along the highway between Vajedu and Venkatapuram mandals. Similar banners were found in Cherla of Bhadradri district also.

Eturnagaram DSP Ramana Reddy, CI Ravinder and a bomb disposal squad arrived at the spot to defuse the bombs.
