Hyderabad: Puppy stuck for 3 days in between 2 buildings saved
Hyderabad: A few-months-old puppy that was stuck between the walls of two buildings, about the breadth of a brick apart, was rescued in a two-hour-long operation in Anandnagar in Safilguda on Thursday.
The pup went without food or water for three days. Its piteous cries finally alerted neighbours to its presence. It took them some time to contact someone that could help. Finally the Disaster Response Force and the Safilguda police were informed. Volunteers from animal welfare organisations also arrived. The Humane Society International (HSI), the Fire department, Disaster Response Force and Safilguda police were all involved in the rescues attempts.
After experimenting with various methods the DRF team decided to use a rope to tie the legs of the puppy and haul it to safety. But they couldn’t reach the dog in the confined space.
Teja Panneru, a technical rescuer and consultant for HSI, was finally called in. He has been involved in many rescue operations in the city. Teja Panneru inserted himself into the narrow space with great difficulty and tied the rope to the dog’s legs — an operation that took more than an hour. The DRF team then pulled the rope gently to the top. As soon as the dog was rescued, it ran off.
