Experts trash BBMP's claim to HC

It is not a one-day task. It needs people support and they should be vigilant to keep their premise clean, he added.

BENGALURU: BBMP has told the High court that 95 per cent of the city is free from garbage! But citizens and civic experts contest said the problem has not been solved to the extent as claimed by the BBMP.

Citizens complain that blacks pots in areas like Chamrajpet, Wilson Garden, Double Road, HRBR Layout, K.R. Puram, Ramurthynagar, J.C. Road, Whitefield, Hebbal, Rajajinagar, Hombegowdanagar, Jogupalya, Domlur and R.R. Nagar were still present.

Civic evangelist Ravichandar told Deccan Chronicle, "Unless we get to higher amount of segregation at source, garbage contracts that mandate segregation, more decentralised processing garbage problem is far from solved."

When asked about BBMP seeking the help of the cops to curb illegal garbage dumping, Ravichandar said that it may be helpful for some visible garbage dumping. "But it does not address the core problem," he added.

Srinivas Alavilli co-founder of the Citizens for Bengaluru, said "I definitely see improvement in several places, but hard to say if it is 95%."
Thanks to BBMP and all the marshals for catching violators red-handed. We need such monitoring for some time and heavy penalties to send a strong message to habitual offenders, he added.

A top BBMP official maintained that "We are doing our best to clear black spots. We joined hands with the Ugly Indians to clear black spots with pourakarmikas and make the place look good."

It is not a one-day task. It needs people support and they should be vigilant to keep their premise clean, he added.

Rangolis drawn over black spots
In one of the creative ways to clear black spots, BBMP on Thursday celebrated Kannada Rajyotsava by drawing Rangolis over black spots.

Mayor Gangambike said that this will not stop with celebration of Rajyotsava, but continue with the help of pourakarmikas to spread the message of keeping their premises clean and free from black spots.
