Chennai: College student held for killing 2

On October 30 morning, Saran was driving his four-wheeler on Konnur high road to go to the gym.

Chennai: A college student was arrested on Thursday for driving his car in a rash manner and running over a woman and an eight-year-old girl on Konnur High Road in Villivakkam

According to police, P.Saran (21) a resident of Ayanavaram, was pursuing his engineering third year at a private university in Kattangulathur.

On October 30 morning, Saran was driving his four-wheeler on Konnur high road to go to the gym. When he tried to overtake a bus he lost control of the vehicle and hit Vijalakshmi (28) and her niece Bindu (8) walking on the road.

Passersby surrounded his car and tried to attack him. Vijayalakshmi and Bindu who fought for their lives were rescued and sent to the hospital for treatment. Vijayalakshmi underwent treatment at Kilapuk Government Hospital and Bindu was admitted to a private hospital in Vadapalani.

However, Bindu was declared brain dead on Wednesday night whereas Vijayalakshmi succumbed to injuries on Thursday morning.

Angry relatives stage a road roko on Konnur high road demanding the arrest of Saran. On information, Ayanavaram assistant commissioner Balamurugan rushed to the spot and promised the arrest of accused. Following this, police have arrested Saran from a private hospital in Thirumangalam where he had been admitted with minor injuries.
