Telangana DGP post: Krishna Prasad springs a surprise

Addl DGP takes to FB, says don't believe rumours.

Hyderabad: Additional DGP T. Krishna Prasad, who is said to be one of the front-runners for the post of Director-General of Police (DGP), has taken to social media to quash rumours that he will be heading the police force in the state.

The post of DGP will be vacated on November 11, and a new DGP is expected to take charge on November 12. There are rumours doing the rounds that Mr Krishna Prasad is likely to be made the next DGP because of his Dalit background. However, the IPS officer has responded by saying that such rumours are baseless. He posted a message saying, “Dear Friends, a lot of rumours are being floated about the new DGP of Telangana state. Rest assured that they are mere rumours and there is no truth in them. Please do not believe these rumours and please do not like or comment or share them. Thank you for your cooperation.”

His response comes as a surprise to many people in the bureaucratic circles.

Though there are six officers in the running for the post, it is believed that the state Government has already made its choice.

Mahender may pip all to DGP post
Speaking to this newspaper, the police officer said, “Over the past few days I have been receiving messages congratulating me on my selection as the next DGP, which is incorrect. I felt that I should put an end to it since some genuine people were joining the trail of messages and wishing me. Since these rumours have come to my notice, I have chosen to react. Many people are taking time out to wish me good luck, and I thought that was is my duty to clarify the matter.”

Though there are six officers in the running for the post, it is believed that the state govern-ment has already made its choice. Reliable sources reveal that M. Mahender Reddy, the commissioner of the Hyderabad police, is the Chief Minister’s pick to replace current DGP Anurag Sharma.
