Ksheerabhagya scheme: Flavoured milk for kids in Mysuru, Raichur
Mysuru: School children at People’s Park government school got a surprise gift on Rajyotsava day from district in-charge minister Dr H.C. Mahadevappa - flavoured milk. The flavoured milk scheme, which was introduced on a pilot basis, would be extended to schools across Mysuru and Raichur districts under Ksheerabhagya scheme. “While chocolate flavored milk will be offered three days a week, cardamom flavored milk will be offered for another two days,” Dr Mahadevappa said.
While milk under Ksheerabhagya scheme was given five days a week to address the issue of malnutrition among children, at Janamana programme held twice in Mysuru (once chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and by district minister Dr Mahadevappa), children of government schools had complained that they did not like the smell of powdered milk and requested supply of flavored milk.
“In response to their demand, the project has been launched on pilot basis. It will benefit more than 2.16 lakh children studying in government schools from class 1 to class 10 in Mysuru district.” said Mr Shivshankar, CEO of zilla panchayat. While the government was spending Rs 2.18 crore per month to provide 150 ml of plain milk per child at government schools in the district, flavored milk will now put an additional burden of Rs 14 lakh per month, he added.
