Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh drops plea on Telangana at National Green Tribunal

The bench expressed its displeasure at the AP government for seeking deletion of the TS government.

Hyderabad: The AP government withdrew its plea before the National Green Tribunal at Delhi seeking to delete the TS government as party to the application with regard to the Polavaram Project. A two-member bench of the NGT headed by Justice Jawed Rahim was dealing with two applications by AP opposing the hearing of a petition by Readiness for Empowerment through Legitimate Action (RELA) an NGO from TS seeking to stay the construction of the Polavaram Project.

The bench expressed its displeasure at the AP government for seeking deletion of the TS government, stating that filing such applications at the time of final hearing is not proper. The bench asked Mr Guntur Pramod counsel for AP, whether AP would withdraw the petition or should it dismissed. AP sought more time. TS counsel said under Section 90 (3) of AP Reorganisation Act, the consent of Telangana state was deemed.
