SIMI jailbreak: Parappana Agrahara prison on alert
Bengaluru: The security has been further tightened after eight Students Islamic Movement of India terrorists, who escaped from the central prisons in Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, were gunned down by the police on Monday.
“Routines of the jail cannot be dispensed with, but continued with extra vigil. The prison houses around 150 high-security prisoners who are kept separately from others and our staffers have stepped up security and are monitoring them. They include not only terrorists and Naxalites, but also others who are repeat offenders of heinous and grave crimes,” said a senior prison official.
“As part of the routine, we do not allow any objects to enter the prison, but sometimes when some construction activity is going on in the jail premises, there are possibilities of prisoners getting their hands on small tools or metal objects, like what happened in Kalburgi jail. Our jail staff knows very well about that possibility and it has been included in our routine that everything is checked and nothing is allowed inside the prison complex,” he said.
