Andhra Pradesh: Varavara Rao seeks inquiry by SC judge into Maoist encounter

Speaking at a press conference, Rao alleged that the encounter was fake and police never gave any opportunity to the Naxals to surrender.

Warangal: Revolutionary writer Varavara Rao on Tuesday demanded an inquiry by a sitting or retired Supreme Court judge into the encounter in Malkangiri district on Andhra Pradesh-Odisha border last month in which 28 Naxals were killed.

Speaking at a press conference, Rao alleged that the encounter was fake and police never gave any opportunity to the Naxals to surrender. He also claimed that some innocent tribals had been held by police and demanded their release.

The encounter was "pre-planned" and police reached the spot two days in advance using helicopters as the place is otherwise very difficult to reach, Rao claimed.
