Governor takes part in festivities at Raja Rajeshwari temple

Unlike the usual practice of concluding the Navaratri after 9 day, the Vemulawada temple observes a 7-day festival during Dasara Navaratri

KARIMNAGAR: Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan visited the famous Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy temple in Vemulawada town of Rajanna Sircilla district on Saturday.

After receiving a grand welcome, with purnakumbam, from the temple priests, she offered special prayers to the presiding deities, following which the executive officer of the temple, D. Krishna Prasad, presented silk clothes, a memento and prasadam to the special visitor, as per the temple’s tradition.

Later in the day, Soundararajan also took part in the Bathukamma celebrations at the temple premises.

While the Bathukamma festivities are carried out on all nine days of the Navaratri festival, the women in Vemulawada have a unique tradition of celebrating it for seven days. They hold the Saddula Bathukamma celebrations on the seventh day and end the festivities on a grand note.

Following the seven days, the women visit their native place and celebrate the last two days there, holding the Saddula Bathukamma once again, on the ninth day.

The governor’s visit on Saturday comes on the heels of a request by BJP state chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar and Rajanna Sircilla district BJP chief Pratapa Ramakrishna to Soundararajan to take part in the festivities.
