Bengaluru: South police arrest 229, seize Rs 5.17 cr valuables

The police arrested 70 robbers, 17 chain-snatchers, 58 vehicle-lifters and seven people in connection with the sale of ganja.

Bengaluru: The South division police arrested 229 criminals and seized stolen goods worth Rs 5.17 crore. They recovered 8 kg of gold ornaments, 2.5 carrots of diamond, 25 kg of silver, Rs 1.3 core worth of 155 bikes, 27 three-wheelers, 54 laptops, Rs 87 lakh worth 10 kg of ganja and Rs 23.85 lakh cash from the accused.

The police arrested 70 robbers, 17 chain-snatchers, 58 vehicle-lifters and seven people in connection with the sale of ganja. The police solved 37 crimes in Basavanagudi, 10 in Banashankari, 17 in J.P. Nagar, 27 in Jayanagar, 11 in Siddapura, 14 each in Konanakunte and K.S. Layout, 21 in Puttenahalli and 50 cases in Subramanyapura police limits.

The police solved 342 criminal cases and it was appreciated by Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao appreciated their efforts. Later, Mr Rao, inaugurating the new initiative of Bengaluru police – ‘Nere-hore’ (neighbourhood care), said that people should install modern gadgets to check crimes. If they can afford, people should use safety lockers, CCTVs and alarm systems at homes, he said.

He urged people to call police helpline 100 and the cops will respond as soon as possible. The city has 280 Hoysala patrolling vehicles, which will come to the rescue of victims. More vehicles will be added soon, he said. Additional Commissioner (West) Umesh Kumar and DCP Dr Rohini Katoch were present.
