Speaker likely to order notice to S Karunas, 3 others

Chennai: Assembly Speaker P. Dhanapal is likely to issue notices to actor-legislator S. Karunas, who is on bail after being arrested for his ‘abusive remarks’ and three supporters of T.T.V. Dhinakaran, seeking explanation as to why they should not be disqualified, media reports claimed on Monday.

The News J TV channel, (launched by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Deputy CM O. Panneerselvam, last month) the official mouthpiece of the ruling AIADMK, without naming anyone claimed that as per reports the Speaker is likely to issue notices to Karunas (Tiruvadanai MLA), E. Rathinasabapathi (Aranthangi), V.T. Kalaiselvan (Viruddhachalam) and Prabhu (Kallakurichi) following a complaint by the Chief Government Whip S. Rajendran.

Mr Palaniswami held discussion with the Deputy CM on the course of action. After Rajendran gave the complaint, law minister C. Ve. Shanmugam held a meeting with the Speaker. Following a series of discussions with Ministers, Mr. Dhanapal is likely to issue notices to the four legislators as per news reports, the channel claimed.

Lawmaker Karunas was arrested by the police for using abusive words against Chief Minister, newspapers and the police, while staging a protest here last week.
