Executive order needed to stop Aadhaar-based attendance system

The government needs to come out with an executive order to curb the databases wherever they are being used.

Hyderabad: Experts say there is a need to immediately stop collecting attendance through Aadhaar and to have an executive order or guidelines with immediate effect. Mr Kiran Chandra, general secretary of Free Software Movement of India, has asked the administration to put in place a mechanism to undo the process.

“The government needs to come out with an executive order to curb the databases wherever they are being used, especially those in private colleges which are owned by politicians who are participating in elections.

The Aadhaar number, telephone number of thousands of students and teachers being utilized for other malicious purposes of moulding opinion or manipulating electoral rolls is a possibility. There needs to be an process in place to implement these decisions whereby the databases is scrubbed, and if they use anything associated with it, there should be a criminal action as well,” he said.
