603 hoardings removed, 600 more to go: BBMP

It submitted that the proposed by-laws were notified on September 25 and objections/suggestions have been invited within 30 days.

Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Monday informed the Karnataka High Court that since September 17, 500 more hoardings/structures were voluntarily removed, while it took down 103 hoardings/structures.

It said the process is on to remove other offending hoardings/structures, leaving out those that were not treated as unauthorised or that have obtained interim orders from courts. It said over 600 hoardings/structures are yet to be removed.

It submitted that the proposed by-laws were notified on September 25 and objections/suggestions have been invited within 30 days.

Further, it submitted that removal of the other unauthorised and offending structures is being taken up and the material collected is disposed of as there is no storage capacity with BBMP. The BBMP advocate agreed that henceforth, notices will be issued to invite scrap dealers to ensure competitive rates for disposal.

On advertisements at some of the public places like skywalks, bus-stands etc., the BBMP said that the material sought to be used was that of one concessionaire and the sample has been sent for testing.

The BBMP advocate submitted that the officers will be directed to survey all the existing advertisements and prepare a report.

After the submissions, the court adjourned the matter to October 26.
