North Chennai may see heavy rain next 24 hours

Chennai: A slow moving storm is converging over Chennai, Kanchipuram and Thiruvallur (KTC belt) and it may bring a good amount of rain.

Intense rain pounded North Chennai on Saturday night — Sunday morning recording 100 mm by 8:30 am. Gumidipoondi received the highest rain of 158 mm followed by Ennore and Poondi lake with 139 mm and 135 mm respectively.

While the average amount of rainfall recorded by 08:30 am on October 1 in Chennai was 49 mm, Thiruvallur received 77.2 mm and Kancheepuram 25 mm.

The pattern may have been set for sunny days accompanied by late night rain in the city in the coming week also. “North Chennai is expected to benefit from the rainfall, in the North TN belt including Chennai, Thiruvallur, Vellore and Kancheepuram. Late night rain was expected on Sunday night also, with lake catchment areas to receive good amount of rainfall,” says weather blogger K. Srikanth.

The maximum temperature was 33.6 degree Celsius in Nungambakkam and the minimum 23.5 C while at Meenambakkam it was 33 C and 23.2 C respectively.

The Met department forecast — “The sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy during the evening hours. Rain or thundershower is likely to occur in isolated areas, mainly North Chennai. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 33 and 25 Celsius respectively”.
