New excise policy comes into force in Telangana
Hyderabad: The new excise policy that allows liquor outlets to stay open for an hour more came into effect on Sunday.
Telangana State Wine Dealers Association President D. Venkateswar Rao said there was no clarity on installing CCTV cameras as specified in the policy. “We have installed CCTV cameras in GHMC limits, We adopted it 10 years ago by spending Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh. The prohibition and excise department is focusing on it now. There is no proper connectivity between wine shops and excise stations,” he said.

The new policy allows dealers to sell liquor from 10 am to 11 pm. Licences were allocated on September 22. Besides CCTV cameras, the new policy insists on implementation of HPFS bar-coding system and sales on maximum retail price. The new policy will stay in place for two years.
