Study to assess Bengaluru residents' well being

It was one of the proposals announced by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the 2016-17 budget.

Bengaluru: The state government has kick started the Human Development Study of Bengaluru city to assess how the residents of this IT city fare with regard to human development parameters such as health, education, service delivery, life expectancy and other indices.

It was one of the proposals announced by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the 2016-17 budget. The Planning Programme Monitoring & Statistics Department of the state government has taken up this project.

Highlights According to sources in the state government, the Planning Programme Monitoring & Statistics Department is already engaged in the preparing state and district level human development reports. “The Bengaluru urban human development report will be prepared along similar lines,” he said.

Study frame work: According to sources, this study is expected to give a clear picture of the quality of life of Bengalureans. “Generally issues like health, education, service delivery, life expectancy, net domestic product, net enrollment ratio and other issues will be covered in the Human Development Study. The proposed study is expected to provide a clear picture about the state of matters of the city, which is considered as one of the fastest growing in the country,” he explained.

Major areas of study: According to sources, this study is expected to focus on the demographic profile, infant mortality rate and maternal mortality ratio, performance of various health schemes, per capita expenditure analysis on health sector, income, employment and poverty, employment and unemployment, work participation rate, occupation pattern, standard of living, etc.

“Standard of Living, Gender and Development, Status of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, Governance Issues – Governance and Human Development and Urban Issues in Human Development will also be covered in the study,” officials said.
