Thanjavur: Voters lists corrections get easier

This new scheme introduced by the ECI has come into effect from September 1.

THANJAVUR: Voters on their own can now make corrections in voters list, in case of error in their name, address, date of birth etc using the website of Election Commission of India.

This new scheme introduced by the ECI has come into effect from September 1, Sunday, said A. Annadurai, Thanjavur district collector here on.

Speaking to presspersons after inaugurating the Voters Facilitation Centre at the collectorate as part of ‘Electors Verification Programme’ being done from September 1 to September 30 with January one, 2020 as the eligibility date, Annadurai said that voters can use Voter Help Line Mobile App, www.nvsp.in, Common Service Centre for making corrections in voters list. They can also submit filled up applications to booth level officers and verify their details. Senior citizens and differently-abled persons can use 1950 number (Voters Facilitation Centre) to make corrections.

Voters can upload the voters’ identity card number and make corrections. For making corrections, they can upload copies of passports, driving licence, Aadhar card, ration card, bank pass book, electricity or water bill etc as support documents.

Voters Facilitation centres have been opened at Revenue divisional offices and taluk offices from September one to help people, the collector said.

With a view to popularise and create awareness among voters, particularly new voters for enrollment, ECI has asked to conduct various programmes in the one month from September one to 30. Accordingly, posters will be put up, pamphlets issued, campaign will be done in schools and colleges, old age homes, orphanages, etc, the collector said. Draft electoral rolls will be released on October 15 and 45 days time will be given for corrections in that rolls and final electoral rolls will be released on January one, 2020, the collector said.

Thiruvidaimaruthur assembly constituency

With respect to Thanjavur district, the collector said that enrollment of women voters is less in Thiruvidaimaruthur assembly constituency. Efforts will be taken to improve the enrollment. Moreover, in this constituency sex ratio to male is less compared to other constituencies in the district. In other constituencies, the ratio is 1043 female to every 1000 males, while in Thiruvidaimaruthur, it is 1003 to 1000, the collector said.
