Shashi Tharoor ‘tongue in cheek’ on author

As the evening went on, the young historian, Manu S. Pillai, certified that all these stories are really from personal experience.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A. Khyrunnisa's techniques in writing for children has enabled her to garner the attention of the adults as well, feels Dr Shashi Tharoor.

He was speaking after releasing her new book Tongue In Cheek at Vyloppilly Samskrithi Bhavan here on Sunday.

"Tremendous talent for crafting the story," appreciated Tharoor when delving into the style of Khyrunnisa.

The author famous for her Butterfingers series of books for children has come out this time with a work for adults, which is a collection of experiences of an urban woman.

"Vijaya Kumar sir has played a lot in the book," remarked the author appreciating the aid provided by her husband in the creation of 'Tongue In Cheek'.

She also, with all honesty, told Deccan Chronicle that all the events described in her book happened to her and had to utilise poetic license to exaggerate them to a comical degree.

As the evening went on, the young historian, Manu S. Pillai, certified that all these stories are really from personal experience.

"I don't feel to bat for the women or the men," said Ms Khyrunnisa as she finds it absurd and silly for taking sides, especially in the matter of being a feminist or not.

Quoting Bernard Shaw's saying about making people laugh and then make them think, she wanted to achieve the same effect.

"Religion never enters my books, I believe people are more important," she said shedding light on whether she will utilise the lens of religion to describe characters in her future books.
