The intervention by the Commission was based on the petition filed by Prasanth C. Nair, who was arrested by the police by entering his house during odd timing. The photo was shared in social media and he was made to stand in the police station till next morning without food.

He said in the petition to the human rights commission that the act by the police was a violation of Supreme Court order that protects the rights of person arrested.

Police inspector, Paravur, informed the Commission that the accused was arrested from Kottappuram as a precautionary detention. However, the accused maintained that he had reached the place on March 15 from abroad after receiving a summons from the court directing him to appear before it on April 19.

The accused alleged that the police team which arrested him on the night of March 15 also destroyed his home appliances. He was also insulted by the police officer through social media, he said in his complaint.
