Hyderabad: Driving licences of 92 offenders cancelled
Hyderabad: The Nampally court in Hyderabad cancelled the driving licences of 92 citizens and imposed a fine of Rs 5.4 crore on traffic violators. A total of 2,542 cases were booked for drunken driving in the month of August.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Anil Kumar said, “A total of 402 people were sent to prison and 92 driving licences were cancelled by the 3rd and 4th Metropolitan Magistrate Courts.” The honourable courts imposed a fine of Rs 5.4 crores on the remaining 2,122 traffic violators.
One person got the highest imprisonment of three months and 198 others were sent to jail for two days. The driving licences of 17 people were cancelled permanently and that of six people were cancelled for seven years, 13 people for five 5 years, five people for four years, 12 people for three years, nine people for two years, and that of 16 people were cancelled for one year.
In addition to that, 23 citizens held for cell phone driving and nine held for driving without licence were sentenced to jail. Twenty one people were jailed for two days and five persons for two days for driving without a licence.
The traffic violators who were caught and convicted for drunk driving may face difficulties in getting government jobs and visa clearance. The violators who committed the offence were also counselled at TTI, Goshamahal and Begumpet. Those sentenced were sent to Chanchalguda Jail, the official said.
