Serial accident kills 3, injures six near KIA
Bengaluru: Three people were killed while six others were injured in a chain of accidents on a flyover at Hunasamaranahalli on Kempegowda International Airport Road on Friday afternoon.
The deceased have been identified as Muniraju, 60, his son Prashanth and Ashwath Babu, 40. Muniraju’s relatives Ganapati, Nagaraj and Darshan sustained injuries in the accident.
All the six hailed from Andiganala village of Shidlaghatta taluk of Chikkaballapur district and were farmers. They were travelling in a Scorpio vehicle.
Police said that Muniraju’s relative was admitted to a hospital in the city and they had come to visit him and the accident happened while they were returning.
Around 2.30 pm, when the vehicle was passing on the flyover near Hunasamaranahalli and one of its tyre burst. As a result, Ashwath Babu, who was driving the vehicle, lost control and the vehicle jumped the road median and hit a mini truck coming from the opposite direction. A tempo coming behind the mini truck rammed into it.
“Due to the impact, both driver Babu and Muniraju died on the spot, while Prashanth succumbed later at the hospital. Manikyam, the driver of the mini truck, belonging to a private courier company, and its employee Bharat Yadav were injured, while the driver of the tempo, Rehman, also sustained injuries in the accident. All the six injured are undergoing treatment at private hospitals. Prima facie, the tyre burst led to the chain of accidents,” the police added.
The traffic on the busy road was thrown out of gear for some time, until the police cleared the way. The Chikkajala traffic police have registered a case and begun investigations.
