Benglauru: Rains flood low lying areas, apartments

Residents engaged pumpsets to flush out water from their houses and apartments.

Bengaluru: Some low-lying areas in Koramangala, Madiwala, Bommanahalli and Benglauru South were inundated after heavy rains in the city on Thursday night.

The basement of an apartment near Gottigere off Bannerghatta Road was flooded and the residents had a tough time as their vehicles were submerged. Around 15 firemen were deployed to pump out water from the basement of the apartment. Residents engaged pumpsets to flush out water from their houses and apartments.

Even the basement parking lot of the BMTC complex in Koramangala was flooded with knee-deep water.

There was no electricity and water in many areas since Thursday night. Also, many households did not get milk and other essentials on Friday morning.

Mayor G. Padmavathi and Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George camped at the BBMP head office and the Mayor personally attended to emergency calls and sent the BBMP staff to attend to complaints.

She said that nearly 10 trees were uprooted. The BBMP too faced a tough time as only one Prahari, the emergency vehicle, was available. She was upset that the officials were not available on Thursday night to attend to the complaints of the people.
