Parking row: GHMC to step in

The parking fee issue is covered by the GHMC Act of 1955.

Hyderabad: After a commoner took on the parking fee loot by filing an FIR against Inorbit Mall, the police has now extended their investigation by sending the GHMC an official request to clarify the issue.

The parking fee issue is covered by the GHMC Act of 1955. The Act says that parking areas in a commercial complex is common and that nobody can claim an absolute right to levy fees for parking in the area. The police has not made any arrests and are awaiting GHMC’s response. Sections 188, 418 and 420 of Indian Penal Code have been applied on the mall for charging the petitioner Rs 30 for 10 minutes of parking. The SHO of Madhapur police station, Kallinga Rao, said until investigations are complete the public would have to pay money for parking. The mall’s management was not available for comment.
