Karnataka High Court seeks probe into Illegal slaughter

The place allegedly has around 300 cows brought for slaughter, the petition stated.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Friday appointed two court commissioners to inspect alleged irregularities, illegal transportation and slaughter of animals in Shivajinagar and its surrounding areas. They are directed to conduct inspection under police protection.

Animal activist and a member of an NGO had approached the high court seeking directions to the Shivajinagar Police to follow the order of a lower court in protecting the animals.

The two court commissioners, M. Akshata and Chandranata Ariga, both advocates, were appointed with directions to inspect about alleged illegal transport, shifting and slaughter of buffaloes, cows and other animals. If found they are to be rescued and taken to the nearest 'goshala'. The police were told to protect the two commissioners.

The petitioners alleged that animals were brought from Tumakuru and other cities and placed at 'Doddi' in Shivajinagar. The place allegedly has around 300 cows brought for slaughter, the petition stated.

It further claimed that the Slaughter House Rules of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act was being flouted and illegal slaughter of cattle was creating public nuisance and polluting ground water.
