Chennai: Auto driver eletrocuted
CHENNAI: A 41-year-old auto rickshaw driver got electrocuted after he came in contact with a live wire submerged in stagnant water in Sathyamoorthy Nagar near Korukkupet on Friday morning. The deceased was identified as T Sivalingam of Meenambal Nagar in Korukkept. Police said that he was on his way to work after dropping his five year old son in school when he met with the accident.
“His vehicle had stopped and he got down to check it out. While doing so, he stepped onto a pool of stagnated water and got electrocuted,” a police officer said. The City received incessant rains for more than a hour on Friday morning.
Passerby and onlookers who noticed Sivalingam being thrown to the ground alerted the ambulance. He was moved to the Government Stanley Medical College where he was declared brought dead.
Later, public took to the streets protesting against the ambulance services claiming they reached late and against the negligence of the administration, which they claimed led to the loss of a life. Police personnel pacified the agitating public, who dispersed after half an hour. Police registered a case under section 174 of CrPC and are investigating.
