Naveen Chand appointed as new Telangana Intelligence chief

KCR transferred State Intelligence Department chief B. Shivadhar Reddy and shunted him out to a loopline post.

HYDERABAD: In a sudden move, Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday transferred State Intelligence Department chief B. Shivadhar Reddy and shunted him out to a loopline post.

Following the encounter of renegade Naxal and gangster, Nayeemuddin recently, Mr Shivadhar Reddy, an inspector-general of police, had been praised for his operations which didn’t go well with his seniors, sources said.

The reason for shifting Mr Shivadhar Reddy is not yet known but it came as a surprise to many ministers in the Rao Cabinet who were contacted by this newspaper. Cyberabad West commissioner of police Naveen Chand has been appointed as IG Intelligence.

Mr Naveen Chand initially supervised the Nayeem case with the Narsingi police where Nayeem’s den was unearthed. Mr Shivadhar Reddy has been posted as IGP personnel — considered as an inactive post.

Interestingly, Mr Shivadhar Reddy’s deputy in the intelligence department — N. Siva Shankar Reddy — has also been transferred. Dr T Prabhakar Rao, a 2001 batch official and DIG of Warangal range, has been posted as DIG Intelligence. Mr Siva Shankar Reddy has been shifted to the TS CID. Mr Sandeep Shandilya, a 1993 batch IPS official, has been posted as Cyberabad commissioner.
