Hyderabad: Rescued from labour, kids placed in residential schools

A ragpicker who has five children was happy that three of his children were being sent to school under Operation Muskaan.

Hyderabad: One of the children rescued by the police has been admitted in Class 8 in a social welfare school. “My family’s financial condition was not good, so my parents couldn’t send me to school. Due to this rescue operation my dream of continuing education will be fulfilled,” a child said.

Her mother, a resident of Falaknuma, told Deccan Chronicle, “We couldn't afford our children’s education and there are no proper schools in the area. So our children used to stay at home. This operation has given our children an opportunity.”

A ragpicker who has five children was happy that three of his children were being sent to school under Operation Muskaan. “I dreamt of educating my children but due to our poor financial condition, I couldn’t do so,” the man told this newspaper.

Mr. Adi Narayana, assistant social welfare officer, Golconda division, said, “All the children who were rescued and admitted in the schools will be provided with three meals a day. Thirtyone children will be provided accommodation and four dresses each including two civil dresses and two school uniforms and one sportswear. Apart from that, notebooks will be provided to them.” He added there are also other schemes which will help children to go for higher studies and study abroad.”

One of the children who was admitted in a school said, “There are many other children in our area who are school dropouts and work in different shops, company and others. Government should ensure that the operation continued throughout the year and help children come out of child labour.”
