BMRCL site unable to recharge metro cards

Recently, there was a pilot project to introduce topping up of Metro cards via Paytm at Baiyappanahalli Metro Station.

Bengaluru: Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) commuters are complaining that the Metro card recharge facility on the corporation’s official website is not working and that they have lost money.

“I have recharged my card online, but the amount I have paid has not been credited into the card because the server is down on the official website. The amount is still to reflect on my card though I made the payment some 30 hours ago. Now, I am forced to stand in a long queue to get the tickets,” said Prakruthi, a Metro Rail commuter.

Recently, there was a pilot project to introduce topping up of Metro cards via Paytm at Baiyappanahalli Metro Station. The corporation was planning to extend it to other stations in stages. The digital payment major has also launched a Route Search feature for Metro Rail networks across the country, including Bengaluru, that makes planning point-to-point travel easy. A user needs to access the ‘Metro’ icon on the Paytm app to get the tickets.

On online payment, another commuter Anitha H.S. said, “In many instances, the money would have been debited from our account and the BMRCL would have sent an acknowledgment on the payment made, but still it does not reflect on our card. I have lost money and lodged a complaint with BMRCL, but no one seems bothered. I request others not to recharge their cards on the BMRCL website and lose money. Instead, go to the customer care in any of the stations and recharge your Metro card using our credit or debit card.”

But BMRCL officials said that the server is down only for a few hours and that too not every day. He said, “Yes, we have received many complaints on the server being down and the corporation is working on it. It is not that every day it’s slow. Recharge from the portal multiple times and it works. The only issue is that the amount is not reflecting instantly on the card and it will be resolved soon."
