HUBBALLI/BENGALURU: Will Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy’s move to turn Belagavi into the second capital help take the wind out of the sails of agitators demanding separate statehood for north Karnataka through a shutdown on Thursday?
His decision to shift many offices to Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi and other northern districts has, without doubt, helped divide organizations which gave a call for bandh on August 2, resulting in some backing off from the strike.
While leaders of Uttar Karnataka Raitha Sangh dug their heels in and claimed they would observe the bandh across 13 districts with its president Mr Basavaraj Karigar claiming that he received a positive response from 23 organisations for the bandh call, many other organizations asserted that they have withdrawn support for the bandh as they were satisfied with assurances handed out by Mr Kumaraswamy.
Members of a few organisations staged a protest in Haveri to express their support for the bandh on Wednesday.
