Tamil Nadu submits Neet ordinance
Chennai: Tamil Nadu is believed to have submitted a draft of a state-specific ordinance to exempt students from the state appearing before Neet for two years — 2017 and 2018. Sources said the ordinance was submitted to the Union home ministry late on Tuesday night after two days of marathon discussions between the state government and the Centre.
Health minister C. Vijayabhaskar and health secretary J. Radhakrishnan have been camping in the national capital since Monday meeting senior ministers of the Centre to try and break the Neet logjam. At the end of discussions, it is understood that the idea of state-specific ordinance mooted by the state government was finally accepted by the Union government. The state government is under relentless pressure from students who want exemption from Neet.
Deccan Chronicle had on July 26 reported that the state government was planning to bring such an ordinance. If all goes well and an Ordinance is brought finally, admissions into medical courses in Tamil Nadu would be done based on the marks obtained by candidates in their plus-2 exams.
