Karnataka: Aakasha Ambari' for Dasara in the offing
Mysuru: Special flights could be organised to bring tourists from Bengaluru to Mysuru for its famed Dasara festival. The Mysuru airport authorities plan to submit a proposal to the authorities concerned to organise the “Aakasha Ambari” special flights during Dasara from the HAL airport in Bengaluru.
The decision was taken at the Aerodrome Committee meeting held at the Mysuru airport here on Tuesday, according to official sources.
The True Jet morning flights and Air Odissa night flights, that are set to begin operations before Dasara under the Regional Connectivity scheme in the second week of September, will connect only Mysuru and Chennai. But now it has been decided to arrange special flights to the city from Bengaluru as well to help foreign and domestic tourists, industrialists, VIPs and others arriving for the Mysuru Dasara.
Similar "Aakasha Ambari" flights that were arranged between the two cities during Dasara last year had received good response and seeing the demand this year it had been decided to opt for them again, sources revealed.
Meanwhile, with the national highway 212 coming in the way of the expansion of the runway at Mysuru airport, the state government has proposed an underpass below the runway. Members of a high powered committee from Delhi, which visited Mysuru airport recently, have reportedly given security clearance for the project, which is pending before the civil aviation department for approval. In other developments, the tourism department has invited tenders for aero sports, including sky diving at the Mysuru airport and parasailing, paragliding, para- motoring, and hot- air ballooning in other parts of Mysuru to draw more tourists to the city, according to sources.
