Kamal Haasan fans expose rotten eggs', star tweets praise
Perambalur: Continuing his anti-corruption campaign, actor Kamal Haasan on Tuesday congratulated his fans who ‘exposed rotten eggs’ being supplied to Anganwadis—child daycare centres—in Perambalur district. . “Perambalur expose of rotten eggs given to children deserves praise. Pls consult our in house lawyers be4 exposing crime. Dont break laws (sic),” the national award-winning actor tweeted.
Kamal Narpani Manram spokesman S. Muthukumar told DC that he had led a team of about ten manram members to check the eggs being used in the anganwadis to feed the children. “We had received many complaints that the eggs were rotten, so we went to some anganwadis on July 21 and found that the parents’ complaints were true”, he said.
With the actor’s tweet causing a fresh storm in the ongoing battle between him and the AIADMK government over his corruption charges “in every department”, district collector V. Santha undertook inspection of some anganwadis and told the media that a comprehensive probe would be conducted into the allegation of rotten eggs supplies. She said strict quality control rules were in place.
Kamal’s tweet patting his fans for exposing corruption in anganwadi eggs comes days after state Finance Minister D Jayakumar's poser to the actor asking him what welfare measures he had undertaken for the people through his fan clubs. Instead of leveling vague corruption charges against the government, the actor should come into politics and deliver, the minister had said.
Chief Minister Edappadi K.Palaniswami too had echoed similar views, telling Kamal to take the plunge into politics to get proper response to his charges. In fact, ever since he had made the corruption charge against the regime, Kamal came under bitter attack from the ruling dispensation, with several ministers slamming him for speaking “without basis”.
Responding to the harsh criticism, the star issued a statement asking the people to use social media to expose corruption and make complaints to the concerned ministers, whose contact details he said were available on the government web site. After this, the details were removed from the site.
The opposition parties, including the DMK, have backed Kamal and urged the government to respond to his charges of corruption rather than 'targeting' him.
