Bengaluru: After suicide bid, actor succumbs
Bengaluru: Two days after he attempted suicide by popping pills, sandalwood actor and star player of the Karnataka Bulldozers at the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) Dhruva Sharma died of multiple organ failure at a private hospital early Tuesday. He is survived by his parents, wife and two daughters.
On Saturday evening the 35-year-old actor, who is also hearing and speech impaired, attempted suicide by consuming pills at his flat in Rajankunte, allegedly after incurring huge losses in business.
His family members rushed him to Columbia Asia Hospital when he collapsed after consuming pills. He was undergoing treatment there since Saturday night and was declared dead at around 3 am on Tuesday.
“Police officials tried to record his statement on Saturday, but he was not in a position to do so,” said Amit Singh, Bengaluru Rural SP said.
The police are awaiting the post-mortem report to know about the pills Dhruva had consumed.
Against all odds
Despite being hearing and speech impaired, Dhruva did not consider himself any different from other people.
He started his sandalwood career with ‘Snehanjali’ which made it to the Guinness Book of World Records and Limca Book of Records,
for being the only movie with a deaf-and-mute actor in the main lead. He played the lead role of a normal guy with perfection - lip-syncing the dialogues and songs.
Besides playing in the all the six seasons of the CCL, Dhruva also represented India in n Deaf Cricket World Cup in 2005.
Dhruva was popular for his all-round cricketing ability while playing for Karnataka Bulldozers team captained by his close friend - Kiccha Sudeep in CCL.
He has acted in several other movies including the recent ones - Lootie, Tippaji Circle and few others.
His father Dr Suresh Sharma is also a popular actor and enacted supporting roles both in TV serials and films.
