Eamcet-2 paper leak: Degree colleges in dark in Telangana

A good number of seats in the three-year degree courses which BPC students are eligible to join have remained vacant in degree colleges.

Hyderabad: The leakage of the Eamcet-2 question paper has not only burdened meritorious students who were hoping to pursue medicine or dental courses but also impacted admissions to degree colleges.

A good number of seats in the three-year degree courses which BPC students are eligible to join have remained vacant in degree colleges.

According to Mr Gouri Satish, vice-president of the Degree Colleges Association, courses like BSc BZC, biochemistry, microbiology, biotechnology account for nearly 40,000 seats in various degree colleges.

Nearly 40,000 students with a BPC background were engrossed in the medical entrance examination studies for the last few months. Till Eamcet-3 is held and admissions to MBBS and BDS courses completed, students will remain preoccupied with it for the next one to two months, he said.

Besides, there is the question of admissions under Eamcet-1 for agriculture, veterinary and other courses.

“Less than one-tenth of students writing the exam will be lucky in the sense that they will be getting admissions in medical, dental, agriculture, horticulture and other streams. The rest of the candidates will have no option but to join the degree courses,” he said.

“We were waiting for completion of this process at the earliest. However, with Eamcet-3 on cards, it looks like the wait for admissions into BPC-based courses will get longer,” an association member said.

With seats in most degree colleges not being filled completely, managements have approached the government to give them chance to fill the vacant seats themselves and without any reservation rules.

“In some courses BC quota seats are unfilled. So if any OC student comes forward to pursue study he should be given an opportunity instead of leaving the seat empty,” another member from the association said.
