Tirupati: A 23-year-old house surgeon allegedly died by suicide in Chintareddypalem in Nellore late on Saturday night. The deceased, Chaithanya, belonged to Palasa in Srikakulam district and was pursuing her medical education at Narayana Medical College while residing at the college hostel.
According to sources, Chaithanya had been married for two months to a person from Vizianagaram district. The preliminary inquiry by the investigators revealed that the newly-wed woman was struggling with marital problems, which ultimately led her to take the extreme step.
Dr Srinivasa Reddy, the Principal of Narayana Medical College, said that Chaithanya had been involved in frequent arguments with her husband in recent days. She also shared about the issues with her classmates and had informed her mother about her intentions to end her life, he said. Upon receiving information from Chaitanya’s roommates, the hostel caretaker hurried to her room. She was rushed to the hospital, where she breathed her last, the principal said. “The emotional stress due to domestic issues seems to have taken a toll on her mental health, leading to her suicide”, police said.
Upon receiving information about the incident, a team of police personnel rushed to the hostel to investigate the matter. As part of the ongoing investigation, Chaithanya's phone was seized to gain insights into her state of mind before dying by suicide. Police registered a case and further investigation was underway. The police were also reaching out to the deceased's family members and friends to gather more information.
