Sri Lankan Tamil refugees seek Indian citizenship

At the weekly grievances day in the Madurai collectorate also on Monday, Sri Lankan Tamil refugees from nearby camps in that district.

TIRUCHY: A section of Adidravidar (Dalits) people led by state BJP's Scheduled Caste Wing secretary C. Indiran residing at Tiruverumbur appealed to the Tiruchy district administration to give free house site pattas for them, as per the recommendations National SC/ST Commission’s president, L. Murugan.

Members of the Tiruchy district unit of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) led by their district secretary K. Sasikumar urged the district administration to remove an illegal structure functioning as a place of worship (Church) at Narikurava colony at suburb Thevarayaneri near here, as it was endangering peace and communal harmony, besides attempting religious conversions.

A section Sri Lankan Tamils residing in the Sri Lankan Tamil refugees camps in and around Tiruchy presented a memorandum to the collector seeking Indian citizenship for them.

At the weekly grievances day in the Madurai collectorate also on Monday, Sri Lankan Tamil refugees from nearby camps in that district, came as a group and submitted a petition to the new district collector, T.S. Rajasekar, seeking Indian citizenship for them.
