THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will launch the manufacturing of electric autorickshaw of Kerala Automobiles Ltd on July 10.
The KAL will also venture into manufacturing of electric buses within nine months.
The public sector company KAL was once the market leader in autorickshaw manufacturing. The company which went into losses in between was revived by LDF Government. A new governing body was appointed for the effective functioning of the company.
An official release here said the objective is to manufacture 8000 auto rickshaws in the first phase and introduce them in the market. Subsequently the number of auto rickshaws will be increased depending on the demand. The orders from the open market would be received soon. The working cost of electric auto would be 50 paise per km and the maintenance cost is also low.
KAL has joined hands with Switzerland-based company HESS for manufacturing electric autos with the cooperation of KSRTC. This is the first time that a public sector unit is entering into an agreement with an European company for manufacturing electric buses.
The MoU was exchanged in the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The manufacturing of the buses will begin in nine months. Initially the electric buses will be manufactured for KSRTC....
