Hyderabad: GST turns 2, city stands 1st in recovery of arrears

Hyderabad: As GST (goods and services tax) completes two years in operation, the Hyderabad zone of the Central Tax contributed 57 per cent of the total tax collected in the state of Telangana state and also stood first in the country in recovery of arrears.

Submitting the zonal report IRS principal commissioner M. Srinivas said that in this zone, out of the total Rs 459 crore of tax evasion detected, the department has recovered Rs 292 crore.

 

The Hyderabad Central GST zone has also disbursed 96 per cent of the refunds amounting to more than Rs 1,764 crore.

The average time taken to process export-related GST refunds was just seven days from the date of filing of the complete application. The department has introduced a series of initiatives to provide handholding to stakeholders.

On the second anniversary of GST, the principal commissioner awarded officers for high recovery, investigation and identifying high tax defaulters.

Officers were given a commendation certificate from the government for their exceptional and meritorious contribution as tax collectors. Central GST officials have appealed to the public to make use of the GST Seva Kendra and toll-free number to answer queries relating to GST.

“The main aim was to facilitate compliance by creating a trade-friendly environment. Several queries have been received on the dedicated mail IDs set up by Medchal and Secunderabad Commissioners for taxpayers,” Mr Srinivas said.

Hyderabad zone has designated nodal officers to address taxpayer grievances due to IT glitches in the GST common portal. Refunds and TRAN-1 credit related difficulties were also addressed.

Thirty-five GST seva kendras have been set up across the state registering a footfall of 5,589 persons in the year 2018-19.

The toll-free number 1800 599 5399 and GST Seva Rath were well utilised. In-principle approval has been given for creation of a centralised Appellate Autho-rity for Advance Ruling to deal with cases of conflicting decisions by two or more State Appellate Advance Ruling Authorities on the same issue.
