In a first, Madhapur to get street vending zones
Hyderabad: Madhapur will be the first area where street vending zones will be streamlined by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
As part of this ambitious effort to classify vending zones and regulate hawkers, Serilingampally GHMC officials are hunting for places for green, red and amber zones.
Green zones are free vending zones wherein business can be done irrespective of the time of the day and are not accident prone. Red Zones are no vending zones i.e. where business should not be done. To cater to Sunday Bazaars, the GHMC has identified Amber Zones where business is allowed during specific timings.
The GHMC has classified 135 places across the city into different zones and the classification of the remaining areas is in progress. Serilingampally zonal commissioner Harichandana Dasari said, “First red, green and amber zones are coming up in Madhapur. Then zoning will be taken up across the city”.
Street vendors in each area have been classified by the GHMC. Of the 24,580 vendors surveyed, 22,324 have been issued ID cards. The details of street vendors have been uploaded in the TMEPMA website. As a part of the first step, vendors from red zones are being shifted to green zones and the amber zones are being notified. The UCD department in co-ordination with the Town Vending Committees has identified the zones.
About 30 TVCs have been formed in all circles with circle-level officers, deputy commissioner, AMOH, assistant city planner, traffic police, civil police, NGOs and representatives from the street vendors associations.
The GHMC has facilitated the identified street vendors in opening individual and group savings accounts, apart from organising financial literacy campaigns with the bankers. About 204 street vendors have already secured loans worth '89.48 lakh under SEP/Mudra scheme.
