River Projects in Telangana start receiving inflows
Hyderabad/Nizamabad: For the first time in the current season, both Almatti on the River Krishna and TBP on River Tungabhadra have started receiving good inflows due to heavy rains in their respective catchment areas on Saturday.
Almatti received 27,430 cusecs (over two tmc ft) while Tungabhadra received 14,573 cusecs (over 1 tmc ft) following heavy rains in Mahabaleswar region and Siva Mogga, Kodagu regions.
Incidentally, water level at the Almatti touched 1,661.42 ft on Saturday against 1,658.60 ft on the corresponding day last year. Tungabhadra dam touched 1,579.76 ft on Saturday against 1,579.25 ft last year.
However, the situation at Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar dams — the lifeline projects for both TS and AP continues to be grim.
The water level at Srisailam as on Saturday stood at 779.2 ft against 781.5 ft on the corresponding day last year.
As far as Nagarjunasagar dam is concerned, on Saturday water level touched 501.4 ft, compared to the 504.5 ft on the same day last year.
According to NS dam officials it is the lowest level since 2002, 15 years ago.
Meanwhile, the gates of the Babli project were lifted in Dharmabad taluk of Nanded district on Saturday.
Following Supreme Court directives, the Maharashtra government lifted the project gates to release water into river Godavari to fill the Sriramasagar project in Nizamabad district. The water reached Kandakurthi village, on the Telangana-Maharashtra border.
It is expected that the water from Babli project to SRSP will reach within 12 hours. At present 0.1 tmc ft of water is available in Babli as against its gross capacity of storage 2.74 tmc ft.
The gates will remain open till October 28, 2017.
