Hotels issue bills with old taxes in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Even as some hotels issued bills with old taxes (service tax and VAT) in some parts of twin-cities on Saturday, Hyderabad Zone GST officials termed it ‘unauthorised collection’ and in violation of rules. According to Sunil Jain, commissioner, Hyderabad Zone, previous tax systems are no longer in place with GST coming into effect from July 1.
“There are two violations. One is to collect money from customers in the name of taxes that are no longer in use. Also, non-collection of GST, when the traders ought to have collected it, beginning Saturday,” he said.
The higher official felt that traders’ attempts are not aimed at deceiving the government or customers. “These are early days and there might be logistic issues which one can understand. However, in such cases, traders should try to issue hand written bills by collecting GST as stipulated. Issuing bills with old taxes should be avoided,” Mr. Jain said. The commissioner stated that department would try to create awareness among stakeholders on this issue so that everyone migrates to the new tax regime at the earliest.
