Eviction drive: 25 shops removed from bypass in Kochi

The inspection was led by rural health officer P.N Sreenivasan while the district collector visited the inspection sites.

KOCHI: The special squad, led by district collector Muhammad Y. Safirulla, formed as part of communicable disease prevention, has removed 25 unauthorised and unhygienic shops along the NH bypass. The shops, including four fish stalls at Edappally, Palarivattom and Vyttila were found to be operating in most unhygienic condition without licence. The inspection was led by rural health officer P.N Sreenivasan while the district collector visited the inspection sites.

The squad raided 33 shops along the bypass including three hotels. A hotel near Oberon Mall functioning without the Corporation’s licence or health card has been asked to submit the necessary documents. The hotel will be closed down if it fails to produce the documents, said Mr Sreenivasan. Notice has been served on few hotels where raw meat and cooked food items were stored together in a freezer.

The inspection squad had removed 25 unlicensed shops along the High Court and Goshree Bridge stretch on Friday. The raid will continue in the coming days, said the district collector. The inspection squad including officials of Health, Local self government, Revenue and Civil supplies departments will inspect eateries, food units, ice plants and submit report to the District Disaster Management Authority.
