No BBMP licence for mobile eateries
BENGALURU: Though food truck business has increased manifold across the city, often causing obstruction to pedestrian movement and traffic, they are operating without a valid licence from the BBMP. Speaking to DC, joint commissioner, health, Sarfaraz Khan revealed that the BBMP is yet to come out with a policy or licensing system for them to operate without any hindrance.
On one hand the high court has directed the BBMP to evict footpath vendors on the grounds that it affects the movement of pedestrians and on the other the BBMP is yet to come out with a policy for food truck, as they mostly prefer the commercial space for their business. Allowing such business in commercial areas causes inconvenience to public, he said.
However, the BBMP is contemplating on coming out with a policy to regulate the mobile eateries and hawking zone for push cart business. “I prefer café rather than food truck owing to parking issues and traffic,” says Sheikh Mohammad, owner of food truck and café ‘Two to Tango’.
Food trucks are often driven away by restaurant authorities with the help of cops, if they are making business in close proximity. The mobile traders will have no option but to move away, he said. Another food truck owner said, roads are the best for business. Due to the parking issues cops have to be tipped too. Doing business on road side is always problematic for various issues, he added.
