CHENNAI: Interior roads of T Nagar got a fresh lease of life following a report in Deccan Chronicle on June 28. Greater Chennai corporation officials have relaid important stretches, including Giri Road which connects to G.N. Chetty Road. Residents of the locality were elated over the move as the road had remained in a deteriorated condition for more than a year.
"We thought the road will take shape during elections, which didn't happen. Ahead of monsoon, we were worried that the road will turn waterlogged. The new road is the need of the hour," said K. Gopalan, a retired chief commissioner of income tax. "Pits occupy a major part of this road, which is used by thousands of motorists to reach Anna Road. After floods it was an eyesore that officials needed a news report to relay it," said V. Subramani, a motorist. When DC contacted corporation officials, they said the adjoining roads will also be laid as part of precautionary measures before monsoon. Residents also urged the civic body to clear encroachments on Usman Road besides improving sewerage.
