Loan waiver scheme helps Mylavaram farmers

Few villagers of Patanagaluru and Reddigudem of Mylavaram Assembly segment are not aware of the benefit.

Mylavaram: The loan waiver scheme seems to have given relief to the farmers of Mylavaram Assembly constituency in Krishna district.

When Deccan Chronicle tried to elicit the opinion of the beneficiaries of the scheme, there was mixed response from the farmers. However, around 15 beneficiaries felt that this second round of loan waiver (debt redemption) has helped them to start their kharif season works. While a few villagers of Patanagaluru and Reddigudem of Mylavaram Assembly segment are not aware of the benefit they got out of this debt redemption, some farmers expressed a sigh of relief.

“We got this money, as second-round benefit,” said Kolusu Jamalayya, a small-time farmer, having two acres of land. He said that he was in search of funds to purchase agriculture inputs for the season and by that time, he has received Rs 22,000 as second-time benefit under this scheme. One Mandadi Madhava Rao of Velavadam village is the biggest beneficiary among the villagers as he got Rs 30,000 benefit.

“I almost lost hope on how to start kharif works,” he said, and added that this amount would be spent for the purchase of agricultural inputs and seeds.

It is observed that small and marginal farmers got some confidence to initiate the kharif works, and also to support their children’s education. Seelam Bayapu Reddy, who has paddy and cotton cultivation in six acres, said that he was relieved from the stress of meeting his children’s education needs, after getting Rs 20,000 as second-time benefit.

Another small farmer Pallabothula Nageswara Rao, also expressed similar feeling, as in the second-time itself, he came out of the loan ambit. “I am very happy over the complete loan waiver,” he said.

While Addagiri Jamalayya of Velavadam village got Rs 27,000 as second-time benefit, another farmer Velareddy Krishna Reddy got Rs 30,000 as benefit this time. The response of a farmer Anugolu Nageswara Rao of the same village is interesting, as he said that he was waiting for the third time benefit, since he had experienced huge loss.
