Drunk driving kills 1, injures 10 hurt Hyderabad
Hyderabad: A joy ride by six drunk youths in a car claimed the life of a person who was driving another car. Nearly 10 people were injured in the accident that happened near the busy Nagarjuna circle on Friday.
Rajesh died on the spot and his four family members suffered injuries, when another car driven by Shraveel coming from the opposite direction rammed the divider, jumped to the other side of road and rammed into the car Rajesh was driving.
Police said P. Rajesh 38, a software professional from Madhapur, his father Madhusudan, brother Ramesh, his wife Radhika and their daughter Ramya picked Ramya from St Paul's High School at Hyderguda and were going home in their car.
Just after the car climbed down the Punjagutta flyover and was going towards Road #2 in Banjara Hills, the car driven by Shraveel, an engineering student hit the divider at the curve near Chutney's Hotel.
“The car after hitting the divider jumped to the other lane and rammed the car driven by Rajesh. Rajesh died on the spot,” SI Ravinder of Banjara Hills police station said. Ramya also suffered serious injuries and her condition is critical.
Shraveel and his five friends Surya, Vishnu, Ashwin, Sairamesh, Alen Joseph who were travelling in the car also suffered injuries. Shraveel, Ashwin, Sairamesh and Alen Joseph are critical.
Police said that Shraveel and his friends, all students of Keshav Memorial Engineering College were returning from a movie and were drunk.” Shraveel was tested with the breath analyzer and was positive for alcohol. His blood samples will be sent for diagnosis,” Mr Ravinder added.
