DH Shankarmurthy upset over lesson on Bhagat Singh
Bengaluru: Strongly objecting to freedom fighter Bhagat Singh being labelled a terrorist in a Class VI textbook, Legislative Council Chairman D.H. Shankarmurthy said on Friday the issue would be brought to the notice of Union HRD Minister, Smrithi Irani and also raised during the coming session of the legislature. “If children’s minds are poisoned with such false information, how can they turn out to be good citizens in future? I have also objected to a poem glorifying money for Class I. This will be brought to the notice of the Union government too,’’ Mr Shankarmurthy told reporters here.
Revealing that the Legislative Council would dedicate a day to discussing the education system in the state, he said private bills on child rights would be debated as well.
To a question on the Manappadi Commission report on Wakf properties, Mr Shankarmurthy said he had sought the Governor’s intervention to force the government to table it in the House despite its reluctance to do so. “The ball is in the Governor’s court and we are waiting for him to take a decision,” he added.
