It was stated that thunderstorms and rain are caused by heat wave conditions, which are prevailing across the country. A trough extends from eastern Bihar via Vidharbha towards Tela-ngana and Karnataka.

The heatwave may slightly delay the monsoon by a couple of days. Because of this, the onset of monsoon over Kerala may occur between June 6 and 8, Mr Mahesh Palawat from Skymet Weather, a private forecaster, said.

With unseasonal rains, the temperatures have dropped by between 5oC and 7oC in most parts of the state. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 35.3oC, 4oC below the normal for this time of the year, and lower by 5.9oC from Friday, when the mercury stood at 41.2oC.
