PM Modi offers Thulabharam with lotuses at Guruvayur
Thrissur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will offer ‘Thulabharam’ with lotuses at the Lord Sree Krishna Temple at Guruvayur on June 8.
The prime minister’s office informed the Guruvayur Devaswom about his visit on Saturday morning. He will offer prayers at 12 noon just before the ‘Ucha pooja’ at the temple. “Other than the ‘Thulabharam’ with lotuses to the deity, bookings have been done for a host of other offerings as well. His visit will be for two hours and there was no confirmation on any other Union minister accompanying him,” devaswom managing committee chairman K.B. Mohandas said.
The officials from the Thrissur collectorate also told him about the visit.
The security at the temple has been beefed up and the arrangements for the visit would be finalised by the police and district administration within two days, it is learnt.
Modi had first visited Guruvayur temple in January 2008 soon after he won the 2007 Assembly elections in Gujarat and became chief minister for the third time in the state.
“Modi’s visit to the temple last time was at 3 a.m. and he offered prayers during 'Vakacharthu.’ When he asked about the ritual of idol being adorned with a crown, the BJP leaders accompanied him told him that he will become prime minister one day and that he should come to Guruvayur to offer prayers again,” BJP’s former district president Sreesan Adiyat, who had accompanied Modi in 2008, said.
